Narendra Modi came to Port Louis Mauritius on March 11 2025 for two days of official visits where he received elaborate ceremonies to symbolize the firm political relations between both nations. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam of Mauritius met Modi at the airport with about 200 official guests in his entourage. The special ceremony included a guard of honour that symbolized the event. 
According to his schedule Modi will join Mauritius National Day festivities on March 12 while serving as the main guest. A combined force of Indian Defence personnel together with Indian Navy ships will join the festivities to express the multi-layered defense partnership between the nations. 
During his visit Modi will initiate the inauguration of more than twenty projects funded by India in Mauritius while seeking to enhance strategic diplomatic relationships. Various sector-based projects demonstrate India’s dedicated support for Mauritius’s development mission. 
The discussions between India and Mauritius will prioritize establishing India’s backing for Mauritius’s ownership claim of the Chagos Archipelago. The international support for Mauritian sovereignty over the archipelago now receives backing from U.S. President Donald Trump through his agreement with Britain about territorial ownership. The historical backing of Mauritius’s fight for Chagos sovereignty by India also provides support to the U.S. forces on Diego Garcia as protection against growing Chinese influence in the Indian Ocean region. 
During his visit Modi will meet multiple Mauritian authorities before paying respects to the Mauritian president. These meetings will advance the existing bilateral connection and develop fresh opportunities for cooperation between both nations.  Modi participated as a guest at Mauritius National Day ceremonies twice with his 2015 appearance being the first of two chief guest events.
