Ishan Kishan Trolled After Sacrificing Wicket, Fans Question His Smile
Cricket is known to have had thrown into the light several conflicts and hot issues that, as if intentionally, are bound to make the headlines on social media. Recently, in a way, Ishan Kishan, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsman, has been online trolled and questioned due to this latest incident. It concerns his rather strange dismissal not-so-late into a T20 match against his former team Mumbai Indians (MI) and the reactions thereafter in the dugout.
It happened as early as the first phase of SRH’s innings. Kishan, on the wrong side of a delivery, which did indeed look like it was heading down the leg side, appeared to think he had somehow managed to nip it. Though the appeal was quite low-key from MI’s end, there was some initial hesitation from the umpire before Kishan began to walk back. Replay, however, showed clearly that bat had not come into contact with ball, leaving commentators and fans stumped.
Further, to add to all the online firestorm, there was, as circulated in reports and videos, Kishan getting caught laughing while watching the replays in the dressing room, either out of disbelief or just embarrassingly caught committing such an error. This did not sit well with a huge chunk of cyberspace.
Several fans resorted to social media platforms to express their disappointment and some even angered by his behavior.
Amongst the pertinent issues raised were whether he was even aware of the happenings and then ultimately decided not to take the DRS. In a crucial match, especially after being dismissed cheaply, the expectation would be that the batsman should be absolutely sure before walking away, especially when the appeal of the fielding side is not very strong.
The laughter in the dugout only increased the criticism. Many interpreted it as an attitude of not taking the incident serious or feeling remorse for what seemed a high stake mistake. Some questioned whether he was really committed to the team, while others humorously (or sarcastically) suggested he might still have “some old MI royalty left in his blood”.
The former cricketers and commentators also joined the bandwagon of discussions with respect to occurrence. While a few acknowledged the fact that such a thing could happen in the heat of the moment, several emphasized the need for using the DRS in case of doubt in dismissal. The very intention of technology is meant to correct errors and make the player’s walking-off detrimental to the cause of the whole team.

Such an incident has generated wider debate about player responsibility and the game by the spirit. Some said they would take it as being good, in the sense that Kishan walked out, even if mistaken, but the general furor on the internet was directed against his ignorance and subsequently laughing about it. In such a professional sport totaling runs and wickets, all are considered unacceptable for such justifications. Finally, this online outrage proves once more how one’s actions garner scrutiny in the present-day world.
