Dipika Kakar and Shoaib Ibrahim Face Backlash for Promoting Vlog After Pahalgam Terror Attack Leaves 28 Dead

The assault in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has left the nation aghast. With 28 dead and several others wounded, including foreign tourists, the tragedy has evoked anguish and ire across the country. The families mourn the loss of their dear ones and the nation seeks explanations, while a whole different controversy involving popular TV couple Dipika Kakar and Shoaib Ibrahim has fueled flames on social media.

The couple is well-known for their daily vlogs and social media presence. The couple was vacationing in Kashmir with their baby son, Ruhaan, when news from Pahalgam brought the place into headlines for all the wrong reasons. Days before the attack, Dipika put up an entirely tranquil video from Pahalgam. Post the attack news broke, many fans voiced their concerns about the safety of the couple, following which Shoaib posted an update clarifying they had left Kashmir well in time before the incident took place.

The Instagram story was intended by Shoaib to reassure those concerned; however, the phrase “New vlog coming soon” literally rubbed many online the wrong way. The timing of this content promotion alongside a national tragedy led to further criticism after the couple appeared to have misplaced priorities in the perspective of some netizens.

The tirade against the couple on Reddit commenced soon after, with commentators describing the post as “totally tone-deaf” and “insensitive.” It read: “He is still talking about vlog coming soon. Is he mad, or what?” Another user commented: “I really want to know who these jobless people are who actually wait for any YouTuber’s vlogs. Do these people exist, that creators become so self-centred, delusional, and insensitive at such tragic times?”

Critics went on to call that even if there was no malice intended, promoting something personal during the national tragedy, refers basically to inappropriate timing and context. And it became a reminder that public figures are held to higher standards, generally, at a time of national mourning.

As many as 26 dead bodies of victims have gone from here to Srinagar, increasing the heaviness of sorrow upon the nation. Many celebrities and citizens have condemned the act, calling for stringent action and justice for the victims and their families.

In stark contrast, the controversy surrounding Dipika’s and Shoaib’s tale highlights the subtle line between digital content creation and real-world empathy. While the audience appreciates timely uploads, it becomes quintessentially important to be sensitive, time-oriented, and aware of the present happenings, especially when tragedy strikes. This incident further hammers the point that with greater influence comes a greater responsibility.
