The President of Chile, Gabriel Boric Font, during his official visit to India, complemented Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unusual geostrategic positioning, which includes being able to speak with an ensemble cast of leaders. At an elaborate function in his honour at Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Boric commented, “PM Modi has a weird status nowadays; he can talk to every leader in the world: Mr. Putin, Mr. Trump, Mr. Zelenskyy, leaders of the European Union, Latin America, BRICS, and even Iran.”
This acknowledgment emphasizes India and its evolving role relating to the global theatre, wherein PM Modi remains a conduit in building dialogue across geopolitical divides. The two leaders reiterated strong bilateral ties. PM Modi said that Chile is an important partner for India in Latin America and a “gateway to Antarctica.” The two countries agreed to commence negotiations on a CEPA to further enhance trade and investment relations.
President Boric remarked that Chile intended to deepen its relationship with India, emphasizing how much India has changed in the last 16 years. “Chile is a country that is connected to the world. We do not depend on any one country, but we have relationships with China, the United States, the European Union, and nations across Latin America and the Asia-Pacific, including Japan, Indonesia, and Australia. Now, we want to deepen our relationship with India, and we have taken some important steps today.”
