Bangladesh has taken a drastic measure against 17 members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), including arrested priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. The country’s Financial Intelligence Unit has ordered the freezing of their bank accounts for 30 days, citing possible links to sedition.
The move comes after Das’s arrest on sedition charges for allegedly disrespecting the Bangladeshi national flag. Das, a spokesperson for the Sanatan Jagaran Jote, was taken into custody at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and later jailed .
The frozen accounts belong to 17 individuals, including Das, who are associated with ISKCON Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has asked banks and financial institutions to suspend all transactions related to these accounts for a month.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has condemned the arrest of Das and called for his immediate release. Hasina also highlighted several incidents of persecution of minority communities in Bangladesh since her resignation in August .
The development has sparked concerns among the Hindu community in Bangladesh, with many viewing it as a crackdown on minority rights. The Indian government has also expressed concern over the incident, stating that it is “deeply troubling” .
