In a shocking exposé, Anaya Bangar, the daughter of former Indian cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar, who went through gender-affirmation surgery, has alleged several cricketers sent her nude selfies and harassed her. Anaya, formerly Aryan, spoke of the harrowing incidents in a recent interview, describing what she termed “toxic masculinity” throughout the world of cricket.
Anaya, who has also played age-group cricket, mentioned the complications she faces in the game after her transition. Her very identity needed to be kept hidden due to the stature of her father in the cricketing fraternity, which was a setting of “insecurity and toxic masculinity,” she stated.
On being asked about what her fellow cricketers felt about her after the surgery she had for gender affirmation, Anaya revealed that slurs were hurled at her. Whereas some of them showed support, others harassed her. “There have been some cricketers who randomly sent me nude pictures of them,” Anaya dropped a bomb.
She said some other things: quite a few were blatant verbal abuse and harassment; one would torment her in public with insults and ask for her pictures privately; while in India, she told one veteran cricketer about her gender and identity, and with the same breath, he asked her with a rejected request.
