Weekly Positive News: UPI transactions hit a record high
Transactions under the UPI (Unified Payment Interface) hit a record high of 456 crores in December 2021, surpassing the earlier high observed in October.
Compared to transactions in December 2020, the use of UPI has doubled both in value and volume.
The surge in transactions is the reflection of increasing digital payment adoption as well as the rise in economic activity.

An Ayodhya venture, Yash Pakka, manufactures 100% biodegradable and compostable tableware (bowls, containers, food trays plates) sourced from waste sugarcane fibre.
“We take waste sugarcane fibre from sugar mills located in a 100-mile radius around us. Later we turn it into a pulp and then use it to make plates and bowls that can be used disposable”, explains Ved Krishna, strategy head of Yash Pakka Limited.

A new law banning plastic packaging on most vegetables and fruit comes into effect in France from New Year 2022.

Over one third of vegetable and fruit products in France were sold in plastic wrapping.
President Emmanuel Macron called the ban “a real revolution” and said it showed the country’s commitment to phase out single-use plastics by 2040.

India’s fight against COVID registered another achievement as over 1 crore youngsters between 15-18 age group have received 1st dose of COVID-19 vaccine. India achieved this on the 3rd day of the vaccination drive for children. 147 crore COVID vaccine doses have been administered so far with more than 96 lakh vaccine doses administered in the last 24 hours.

The COVID antiviral drug Molnupiravir, ‘Moflu’ is now available in India at ₹1399 for a 5-day course for mild to moderate infection. This is India’s 1st Covid Antiviral pill and has recovered approval from an expert panel of the Central drugs Standard Control Organisation for restricted use in an emergency.

Cipla, Sun Pharma, and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories are also expected to bring out Molnupiravir capsules.

Beating Sri Lanka in the final match, India won the Under-19 Asia Cup in Dubai International Stadium. The Indian team achieved this feat by taking 9 wickets in merely 21.3 overs. For the 8th time, India bagged this title and scripted history.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi displayed an outstanding performance as he scored a half-century.
