Voting is a fundamental right of each and every Indian citizen that enables him or her to choose the leaders of the future. In many countries, the minimum age for voting is 18 years, similar to India’s. It is not just about the power to vote for a political party, it indicates the importance of citizenship as well.

Many people think, what can a single vote do? But as a matter of fact, even a single vote can make a lot of difference. A nation’s political foundation is structured using elections.

Benefits of voting

Polling is a fundamental process that keeps a nation’s governmental system on board. It enables the citizens to choose their Sarkar and their representative as Neta. The purpose of every government is to develop and implement several policies to benefit its citizens. It can also hold the government accountable for the questions that citizens and opposition party raised. Voting is a way to express the opinion of a citizen democratically. It is crucial to activating the democratic process.

On the day of elections, voters can decide their vote after taking into account security issues, government’s authority to borrow funds for development projects, and advancements on different fronts or even social issues.

Right to vote

The right to vote energizes social awareness as it empowers political cooperation. The citizens can follow the progress of the political representative and the legislature. This consistent process enables the general public to settle on educated choices about whom to vote in favour of.

Important things to know before casting your Vote –

At the polling station:

·  Voters must carry their voter ID cards, voter slip or any other photo ID proof to the polling booth.

·   Then you must inform the Polling officer about your presence and show him your voter ID.

·     Next, the voter has to go to the second Polling Officer, who will mark the left forefinger with indelible ink. He’ll also provide you with the assigned voter’s slip.

·    Then you have to move to the third Polling Officer, who will activate the Ballot button after checking your voters’ slip, which will start the Ballot Unit.

·       Once you are near EVM, hit the “blue button” against the candidate of your choice.

NOTA: If you do not favour any candidate, you can press the NOTA (none of the above) button.

On the button panels of the EVMs, the unlisted candidates are masked. So there is no use in pressing the button against them and wasting the Vote.

Conclusion

The fundamental trait of our “Democratic Country” is voting. India is a democratic country, which means people choose their rulers by voting for them in elections. If the roots of our governmental systems are shaken, how will our country develop?

It gives the person the right to choose his leader and to question the government about the issues and ask for clarifications. It doesn’t allow you to choose the leader based on the representation only but also based upon the social problems, the security system provided to the countrymen etc.
