We live in an era where we Google everything.. literally everything. So, when Google comes up with a list of the top trends of 2022, you know that it is the accurate reflection of what you, me, and everyone was looking at, at some point.
So, here is ‘who’ Indians were looking at in 2022.
Nupur Sharma
Nupur Sharma is a politician who made the most Googled person in 2022! The reason for this popularity came from a controversial comment she passed about Prophet Mohammed on 26th May 2022. After the comment, she was criticized heavily, and there was a threat to her life. FIRs were filed against her on the grounds of “hurting religious sentiments.” The news became so huge that India faced backlash from many countries like Qatar, Turkey, Iran, and Kuwait. Violence also erupted in various parts of the country, for which the Supreme Court later did hold Sharma responsible. On 5th June, Sharma was suspended from BJP and later withdrew her remark. However, a small community continued supporting Sharma for her words and action.
Draupadi Murmu
Draupadi Murmu became the 15th President of India on 25th July 2022. She is the first tribal and second women President in the history of India. Her background is what made her an interesting Google search. Before this, she had also held the post of Governor of Jharkhand and Governor of Odisha. Her personal life has, unfortunately, seen a lot of tragedies where she lost her husband, two sons, mother and brother in just seven years.
Rishi Sunak
The 42-year British politician was all the rage in India not only because he was elected as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, but because of his Indian descent. He is also the leader of the Conservative party since October 2022. His fight to protect the environment has been at the forefront ever since he stepped up to his post. Sunak is married to Akshata Murthy, the daughter of Narayan Murthy, the founder of Infosys.
Lalit Modi and 5. Sushmita Sen
Lalit Modi is the founder of the most iconic league- the Indian Premier League. The internet went crazy after he announced that he was dating Sushmita Sen, the Bollywood actress, and former Miss Universe.
Where Lalit Modi was the number fourth most trending, Sen was at number five.
