Himachal Pradesh Election 2022: Congress won with 40 seats in the 68-member house with 43% of votes in the Himachal pradesh assembly election
Himachal Pradesh Election 2022: The Congress on Thursday 8th of December got an absolute majority in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. By winning 40 seats in the 68-member House, With a 43% vote share, the BJP only managed to take 25 seats, with lower victory margins in many sectors.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominated candidates in 67 seats, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 53, and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in 11 while the BJP and the Congress nominated candidates in all 68 constituencies.
Voters gave 1.10 percent of their votes to the AAP, 0.66 percent to the CPI-M, 0.35 percent to the BSP, 10.39 percent to Independents and others, and 0.59 percent to NOTA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader J P Nadda both highlighted the less than 1% difference in vote percentages between the Congress and BJP in their speeches to party members in Delhi following the announcement of the election results.

Mr. Nadda thanked the BJP workers for their dedication and said, “Raj may have changed, but ‘riwaz’ also changed as there was a gap of less than 1% in the vote share of the top two parties.”
The BJP tried to buck the trend with their campaign slogan, “Raj nahin, riwaz badlega,” which translates to “the convention will change, not the government.” Since 1985, no current government has been returned to power in Himachal Pradesh.
The leader of congress, Rahul Gandhi thanked the people of Himachal Pradesh for the “decisive win” of his party and assured them that the party will keep all of its promises.
The newly elected MLAs will likely assemble in Shimla to choose their leader. Pratibha Singh, the head of the Congress’ Himachal Pradesh branch, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, the departing leader of the Congress Legislature Party, and Mukesh Agnihotri were seen to be the front-runners for the position of chief minister.
“I have handed over my resignation to the governor. Will never stop working for the development of people . We need to analyse things .There were some issues that changed the direction of the results. I will go to Delhi if they call us,”said Former Chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.
