Good news no. 1: Foreign tourist inflow to India up by four times after pandemic 

After two years of negative growth during COVID-19, nearly 69 lakhs foreign tourists visited India in 2022. 

To improve the tourism experience, the country has built extensive tourism infrastructure during the last eight years. A new tourism policy for 2023 has been drafted, which has provided a paradigm shift in reimagining our tourism sector in India. 

Khush Khabri no. 2: India tops in milk production in the world

India has emerged as the world’s highest milk producer by contributing 24% of global milk production in the year 2021-22 as per production data of the Food and Agriculture Organisation Corporate Statistical database (FAOSTAT). 

Milk production in India has marked a 51% increase during the last eight years and recorded 22 crore tonne production in the year 21-22. 

Khush Khabri no.3 : Indian music composer Rickey Kej wins Grammy

India marked a proud day in the music industry as Bengaluru-based musician Ricky Kej clinched a Grammy for the best immersive audio album. His album ‘Divine Tides with rock-legend Stewart Copeland (The Police) brought this honour to the musician. He also became the only Indian to win three Grammy awards. 

In 2015, under the best new age album category, he won the award for his album ‘Winds of Samsara’.  

Khush Khabri no. 4: India wins six medals in Fujairah open Taekwondo

Indian taekwondo players have brought immense pride to the homeland as they clinched six medals across different age groups in the Fujairah Open 2023, held in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. India got 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals across the junior, cadet and senior categories. 

Khush Khabri no.5: G20 Travellers visiting India can Use UPI for Payments

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), foreign visitors can now make merchant payments in India using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the service would first be available to G20 travellers landing at specific international airports.

He added that soon, the UPI facility would be enabled across all other entry points in the country, for which operational guidelines would be issued shortly.

However, PhonePe has become India’s first fintech platform to accept payments from abroad. With this, Indians travelling to Singapore, UAE, Nepal, and Bhutan can now pay foreign merchants using UPI. PhonePe supports all foreign retailers with local QR codes in Mauritius, Nepal, UAE, Singapore, and Bhutan.

Good News no.6: An Indian-American woman became President of the Harvard Law Review publication

An Indian-American student has been elected as the president for the first time in the 136-year-long history of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. 

 The establishment has named an Indian American student, Apsara Iyer, as the publication’s 137th president.

Apsara is a second-year Harvard Law School graduate from Yale in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Maths, and Spanish. Her distinguished predecessors in the role include former president Barack Obama and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Talking about Apsara being elected as president, her immediate predecessor Priscila Coronado said that the publication is “extremely lucky” to have her at the helm.
