Good News: High jumper Tejaswin Shankar Wins New Balance Indoor Grand Prix Title
Making the Indian flag shine, high jumper Tajaswin Shankar clinched the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. He achieved this feat with a leap of 2.26m in the season’s 2nd World Athletics Indoor Tour gold meeting in Boston, USA.
He cleared 2.14m and 2.19m, 2.23m and 2.26m on his 1st attempts. He is also a Commonwealth games Bronze medalist.
Khush Khabri: No income tax till Rs.7 lakh income
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that there would be no income tax up to rs.7 lakhs in the new tax regime. This announcement came out as a part of the union budget for 2023. The income tax rebate limit was rs.5 lakhs previously.
The budget has also proposed to increase tax exemption on leave encashment of the retirement of non-government salaried employees to rs.25 lakh from rs.3 lakhs.
Good news: Indian railways handed its highest-ever budget allocation
In line with the budget’s focus, the railways received its highest-ever allocation of rs.2.4 lakh crore for 2023-24 rs.1 lakh crore higher than the previous year.
The railways have kept a capital spending target of rs.2.6 lakh crore for FY24. Apart from a bouquet of projects (new lines and doubling of existing tracks), the railways will focus on increasing the pace of construction.
Khush Khabri: India wins first ever ICC under-19 women’s T20 World Cup
Team India has won the first-ever ICC Under-19 Women’s T-20 World Cup. It achieved this feat after registering a seven-wicket victory in the finals over England in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Titas Sandhu received the player of the match recognition. India became the only team to have won the men’s ODI world cup, U-19 world cup and women’s U-19 world cup.
