Beware! 3 Three Fake News From the First Week of 2023

From Heeraben Modi to the Pathaan controversy, here are three fake news that hijacked our feeds.


The year 2023 is already here but fake news mongers are not ready to change. Therefore, we have also fastened our belts and taken a resolution to bust all fake news.

Fake news: On December 30, PM Modi’s mother, Heeraben Modi, passed away at 99. Following her demise, several pieces of footage go viral, claiming that it shows images of Heeraben Modi.

Foolproof: The viral claim is false. The image in a Facebook post dated 2011 by one Maryala Srinivas. According to the caption, it was his family photo, which included him with his mother, father, brother, and sister. The viral image is of Vasantiben Hasmukh Lal Modi, the only sister of Narendra Modi.

Kisne Feka: A video of Shah Rukh Khan reacting to social media boycotts is going viral. In the viral video, he can be heard saying, “I don’t want to blow my own trumpet, but this wind (boycott campaign) will not be able to shake me; only leaves are shaken by this.” People shared this video claiming it was recent.

Truth Dose: The viral claim is false. The viral video is from 2016 and was from an interview before the release of his earlier movie Fan. Shah Rukh made this statement when he asked about a social boycott of his movie Dilwale. He said, ‘maybe we did not make a good film ‘and later joked about such campaigns not impacting him.

Fake news: A time-lapse video of a region covered in thick snow is going viral on social media. The time-lapse shows a chair and wood on an outdoor porch covered with snow. People on social media shared this video claiming footage of the ongoing blizzard in America.

Foolproof: The viral claim is misleading. The viral video on a YouTube channel named ‘Worse Than Chiggers’, where the same footage can be seen. The video was uploaded on January 25, 2016. According to the video description, the video is from northern Virginia, USA, and it captured the 48-hour blizzard of winter storm Jonas that hit the east coast between January 22 and 24, 2016.
