10 Fake News that Went Viral this Week, Kab Milegi Fake News se Azaadi?

1. Nitish Sabke Hai, really!

Kisne Feka: Media outlets shared the ‘Nitish Sabke Hai’ poster as recent during the Bihar political crisis.

Fool proof: The images showing the poster dates back to at least October 2020. Reportedly, the poster was installed by Janata Dal (United) members in the run-up to the Bihar assembly elections 2020.

2. Bangladesh violence: Hindus grocery shops set on fire

Fake news: Six grocery shops owned by Hindus were burnt down in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Fool proof: The fire occurred in Kadhurkhil village of Boalkhali Upazila of Chittagong. However, in the fire, shops of business persons from both Hindu and Muslim communities were destroyed, as per media reports.

3. How reservation is being misused? Example went viral

Kisne Feka: Viral image is of a house owned by a person from a backward caste who took advantage of the reservation to get a wealthy life, better education, and a government job.

Fool proof: Viral image was of a homestay located in Pathanamthitta. Neither the owner of this house is from the backward class, nor does he take any reservation benefits for education or job.

4. Sikh Groups Against ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’

Fake News: Sikh groups in Punjab protested against Aamir Khan’s film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha.’

Fool proof: The viral image shows the Sikh Tal-Mel Committee activists protesting in favour of the movie. They demanded that the film screening not be cancelled after the local wing of the Shiv Sena demanded that the screening be cancelled.

5. ‘Har Har Shambhu’ singer Farmani Naaz adopts Hinduism

Kisne Feka: ‘Har Har Shambhu’ song fame Farmani Naaz said she would convert to Hinduism.

Fool proof: The viral tweet was done by a fake Twitter handle. She did not make any such statements. Her official Twitter handle is @farmaninaaz786, while @FarmaniNazz786, from which the viral information was tweeted, is fake.

6. Anangpal Tomar built ‘Red Fort’ not Shahjahan, what?

Fake news: Emperor Anangpal Tomar built the famous ‘Red Fort’ in Delhi, not Mughal emperor Shahjahan.

Fool proof: Anangpal Tomar built Lal-Kot, also known as Qila Rai Pithora, which is 23 km away from Red Fort, not the Red Fort.

7. Tejaswi Yadav’s new Rojgar Yojna!

Kisne Feka: Tejaswi Yadav returned from his election promise of giving one million jobs as soon as he joined Nitish Kumar.

Fool proof: The viral video is edited. Tejaswi Yadav says he had spoken to CM Nitish Kumar about giving one million jobs to the youths.

8. BJP mocked Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign!

Kisne Feka Viral video shows BJP worker singing National anthem while hosting BJP’s party flag amid Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative.

Fool proof: The viral video is from May 2018, when CM Shivraj Singh hosted BJP’s party flag and sang the National Anthem during the Chalo Panchayat Campaign.

9. Laal Singh Chaddha premiered with empty theatre  

Fake news: The movie theatre was almost empty at the premiere of Laal Singh Chaddha, even when Aamir Khan and other actors were present.

Fool proof: The widely shared photo is from a press conference organized in Chennai on 7 August 2022.

10. Bangladesh’s hike in fuel prices set nation on fire    

Kisne Feka: These visuals show riots and arson during the recent protests against Bangladesh’s hike in fuel prices.

Fool proof: The video is from 2013 and shows clashes between police and protesters who demanded a new blasphemy law in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
