Fake news: A set of images is getting viral, claiming that they show the past selves of these leaders. The 1st image allegedly shows the past self of PM Modi sweeping the floor. The 2nd image allegedly shows the past self of President Murmu, wearing a saree and headgear. The 3rd image allegedly shows the past self of Eknath Shinde standing next to an autorickshaw, seemingly seen as an auto-rickshaw driver.

Foolproof: A tweet of ABP lives dated January 21, 2016, comparing the morphed image with its original version. According to the RTI response, “The said photograph is morphed, and the person in the photo is not Mr. Narendra Modi.

The person shown in the viral image is Sukumar Tudu, an Odisha resident. Sukumar Tudu is a sanitation worker at the local primary health centre. She had participated in festivities organized before Droupadi Murmu was elected President, as per the News18 report.

A report of Amar Ujala published on August 8, 2020, states that the image is from 1994 and shows Yogi Adityanath after he decided to become a monk and give up his identity of Ajay Bisht. The image caption reads, “Yogi Adityanath after his renunciation ceremony.”

A report by Free Press Journal published on July 27, 2022, stated that the old photo shows Baba Kamble, the rickshaw drivers’ union leader from Pimpri-Chinchwad. The vehicle license registration code for the Pimpri-Chinchwad is MH14. The code where CM Eknath Shinde was elected, Thane, is MH04.

Aligarh Muslim University budget cut shot by Centre

Kisne feka: Viral claims on social media platforms claim Aligarh Muslim University have received comparatively fewer funds this year. According to the claim, AMU’s allocated budget has been reduced from Rs 62 crores to Rs 9 crores.

Foolproof: The viral claim is false. In the last financial year, 2021-22, funds allocated for AMU (Aligarh Muslim University) and JMI (Jamia Millia Islamia) were significantly reduced. According to THE WIRE, ‘Funds to JMI, AMU Reduced Sharply; Budget for BHU Doubled; Allocation for JNU Stagnant. ‘In the last financial year, 2021-22, funds allocated for AMU (Aligarh Muslim University) and JMI (Jamia Millia Islamia) were significantly reduced, according to an article titled, ‘Funds to JMI, AMU Reduced Sharply; Budget for BHU Doubled; Allocation for JNU Stagnant.’

A wire report documents the Education Ministry’s response to the Lok Sabha reporting a 15% dip in Aligarh University funding. The allocated budget for Aligarh Muslim University declined from Rs 1,520.10 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 1,214.63 crore in 2021-22. In the first quarter of the current financial year, the reply stated that the allocation was Rs 302.32 crore.

Smriti Irani got her 18-year-old daughter engaged!

Kisne feka: Smriti Irani’s Instagram post congratulating her daughter on her engagement went viral on social media. It shows a boy who went down on one knee and proposed to a girl. While sharing this photo, people on social media claimed her 18-year-old daughter, whom Smriti Irani is describing as a student, got engaged in 2021.

Foolproof: The Instagram profile of Smriti Irani found the viral image in a post-dated 25 December 2021. According to it, the girl in the picture is Shanelle Irani. Smriti also tagged Shanelle and her fiancé Arjun in her post.

A viral picture shows Shanelle Irani and her fiancé Arjun Bhalla. Shenelle is the daughter of Mona, Smriti Irani’s husband, Zubin Irani’s first wife. The viral image is of Smriti Irani’s stepdaughter Shanelle Irani and not of Zoish Irani, who was accused by Congress of running an illegal Bar in Goa. Hence, the viral claim is false.
