Proving Twain right, we came across some fake news in the first week of New Year 2022 which were shared largely without a fact-check.

Fake news: A video in which a man can be seen stumbling and urinating publicly is being shared on social media claiming that he is Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan’s Son Aryan Khan. It is claimed that he committed such a shameful act at the airport under the influence of drugs. The claim goes on to say that he lost control of his senses and peed on the airport lobby’s carpet. Several users shared this on social media with the same claim referring to his arrest in the Mumbai cruise drug case.

Fact-checked: The truth is neither the instance is recent nor the man in the clip is Aryan Khan. The video is from 2012 and has Twilight Movie star, Bronson Pelletier. Referring to this incident, various media outlets had published this report back on January 3, 2013. Hence, confirming the identity of the man.
2. Sachin Tendulkar lend shoulder to Sindhutai Sakpal!

Fake news: Padma Shri awardee and social activist Sindhutai Sapkal died due to a Heart attack in Pune at the age of 74 on January 04, 2022. Sindhutai is fondly called ‘Mai’ & ‘Mother Teresa of Maharashtra’. She ran an orphanage ‘Sanmati Bal Niketan Sanstha’ in Pune and adopted over 1,200 orphans. In the same backdrop, a photo is going viral on social media, where Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar can be seen shouldering a funeral along with a few others. It is being claimed that Sachin Tendulkar attended the last rites of Sindhutai Sakpal.

Fact-checked: The viral claim is false. According to the report published by The Indian Express on January 03, 2019, Sachin Tendulkar childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai, and Tendulkar attended his funeral. Along with Sachin Tendulkar, others like Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Vinod Kambli, were also present during the funeral.
Fake news: A video of former Jammu & Kashmir Chirp minister Farooq Abdullah singing bhajans in the name of Lord Ram has gone viral. It claims that after article 370 was scrapped, Farooq Abdullah
has changed and now sings bhajans. Multiple users have posted this video on Facebook and Twitter with the caption, “Amazing change in Farooq Abdullah post article 370 removal”.
Fact-checked: This video of Farooq Abdullah is over 12 years old however, the repellent of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir happened in 2019. Therefore, there is no relation between the two incidents. This video has been circulating on the internet for a long time now. It was available on social media platforms in 2018 too.

This was recorded in one of the Satsang of self-styled godman and convicted rapist Aasa Ram Bapu in Jammu.

Fake news: An image of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is going viral on various social media platforms with a claim that the CM is giving a mask to a school student while he himself is not wearing one. In the viral picture, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia with one more person can be seen tying a mask on a child’s face. Gaurav Goel, who is an Advocate and State Spokesperson, BJP, also tweeted this picture.
Fact-checked: As per the report of Hindustan Times published on November 2, 2019, the Delhi government distributed anti-pollution masks to students for protecting them from air pollution in the capital. The government had also announced that it would distribute almost 5 million N95 masks to government as well as private school students. A tweet by the Aam Aadmi Party on November 1, 2019, confirms the authenticity of the report. Hence, the viral claim is false.
