New Year Shocker: Car Dragged Woman To Death, Witness Accused Police Negligence
Delhi stunned after New Year’s Day horror that claimed a woman’s life. CCTV footage shows how the car dragged woman for kilometres
The Nation woke up to a not-so-welcoming New Year. A horrific incident shivered the national capital to its core more than the winter chills.
New Year’s Day horror in Delhi claims a woman’s life after her scooty was hit by a car with drunken revellers. The woman in her early twenties, recognized as Anjali, was heading towards her home when the incident occurred. The horror did not end here. The miscreant’s car dragged woman under the vehicle for several kilometres on the roads of Delhi’s Sultanpuri on January 1.
The CCTV caught the incident where she was seen stuck under a car. The car with five drunken men continued to drag her for at least 7 kilometres. Police found the woman’s body without clothes and with broken limbs leading to suspicion that she was sexually assaulted and murdered in the most gruesome way possible. The police later said that it appeared to be a case of death by rash and negligent driving.
“It is wrong to allege the issue of sexual assault and murder. The video and pictures on social media are misleading. The girl’s backbone and skull got badly rubbed from being dragged for kilometres. In such a scenario, a person’s clothes rarely remain intact on the body.
Hello sir! They are dragging a body tied beneath the car- Eyewitness
Though All Five men and a car are under the custody of the police now, an eyewitness, Deepak, has raised several questions about the police. As per the witness, he called the police at 3:20 am on January 1 2022, by a bystander. He said, “A car is dragging a dead body tied beneath and going towards Qutab Garh”. Police said that they immediately alerted their teams and launched a search operation.
However, as per the police records, they received the complaint at 4:11 am about a body lying at Kanjhawala.

The witness also claimed that the miscreants took several U-turns dragging the woman mercilessly on the road, and the PCR was just a mile away. But the police did not even bother to stop the car after receiving several complaints from Deepak. ‘I think they already had the information and did not want to arrest them”, said the eyewitness Deepak.

Delhi Demand Stringent Action
‘My head hangs in shame over the inhuman crime in Delhi’s Kanjhawala-Sultanpuri area. I am shocked at the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators. I have been monitoring the case with the Delhi Police commissioner, and the accused have been apprehended.
All aspects of the case are being thoroughly looked into.’ said the Delhi lieutenant governor assuring stringent action after the incident gained the media’s limelight. The National Women’s Commission has written to Delhi CP for a time-bound probe. “What kind of security arrangement does Delhi Police Have in the city if a girl gets dragged for many kilometres, but there are no checkpoints? How did the men driving in a drunken state go unnoticed? Did the Delhi Police make any security arrangements on New Year’s Day?” questioned DCW chief Swati Maliwal.
“They said they were going on a narrow lane and a girl, approaching on her scooter, met with an accident. Since no one raised the alarm, they kept driving. Later, they realized that something was stuck in the car wheel and saw a woman’s body after driving for a few kilometres. They removed the body from the car and fled from the scene,” said an official privy to the investigation. Police have taken the blood samples of the accused and are awaiting the medical report.
The accused have been identified as; Amit Khanna (25), a Bank employee in Uttam Nagar; Deepak Khanna (26), Gramin Seva auto driver; Krishan (27), a worker at Spanish Culture Centre in CP; Mithun (26), a hairdresser and Manoj Mittal (27), a ration dealer. The car belonged to a relative of Amit Khanna’s friend.
