Yet again, girls outshine boys
The much awaited CBSE class 10th results came to an unexpected end on 19th of May, with the results of Chennai and Trivandrum being announced. Results of the remaining regions were out on May 20th, a week before the usual date. The introduction of on-screen marking is being cited as the reason behind this early declaration. Out of the 13.28 lakh students who appeared for the CBSE exam this year, 98.87% have passed, an increment, when compared to last year’s 98.76%. Not surprisingly though, this year too, girls have emerged as clear winners with an passing average of 98.87% in comparison to boys, of whom 98.74% managed to get through.
When most of the schools are flaunting a 100 % pass rate, 1.06 % of them have failed and are now in the improvement lot. This lot has unfortunately, also shown a rise of 0.04 % which accounts for 14,001 students. The re-appear examinations are scheduled in the month of July and for the students who wish to get their answer sheets re-evaluated, the last date of submitting the forms is on 11th June, 2014. Along with the form they have to submit an amount of Rs.200 for each subject, in case of any urgency, students have to pay an extra 100 rupees, which then accounts to Rs.300 per subject.
“Fifty-percent students got Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) 10, indicating a better performance” stated Mrs. Alisha Khan, Vice-Principal of Dehradun Public School.
The recently announced results, determine only 40 % of the overall examinations in the tenth standard. The remaining 60% is evaluated on the basis of the class performance of the students. Hence, fate of the students is no longer an outcome of the three hour long, board examinations only.
Now that the results are out, ‘which stream to choose?’ is the question that pops up in almost every student’s mind. Counseling for the same has been started by CBSE from the 20th of May. Interested students can attend it in order to overcome the dilemma of choosing Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities! Students can also get in touch with the operator for general queries on 1800118004 in between, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
