World Elephant Day: 5 facts about these gentle giants
Elephant day is an international event which is celebrated on August 12 and is dedicated to the preservation and protection of world’s elephants.
The day was founded by Canadian filmmakers Patricia Sims and Elephant Reintroduction Foundation in year 2011.

Here are few facts about this gentle animal:
- The word Elephant has come from the Greek word ‘Elephas’ which means ivory
- There are only two species left on the earth. They are African and Asian Elephant
- The oldest known elephant on the earth lived for 86 years (1917- 2003)
- Elephants have large ears so that they can radiate maximum heat
- The gestation period of Elephants is of 22 months
