Volkswagen in a $18 Billion Soup!
Volkswagen has been accused of installing a ‘cheat device’ in it’s diesel cars. This device called “defeat device” by the U.S. Environment Protection Agency is alleged to turn off emission control when the car is driving, and turn it on when being checked for pollution.
Emiting upto 40 times more pollution than permissible limits, Volkswagen has been accused of hoodwinking not only the EPA, but also consumers since 2008.
Facing a potential $37,500 penalty per car, the amount tots up to a impressive $18 Billion, accounting for the number of such cars alleged to have been sold in this period.
