Vijay Mallya skips ED for the time
Liquor baron Vijay Mallya failed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate and that too for the third time today in connection with a money-laundering case. Well Mallya has sought time till May to reply to the ED notice, seeking his personal appearance in the matter. Mr Mallya is being probed by the agency for his alleged involvement in a 900-crore loan scam.
The agency had last week issued summons to him for the third time asking him to appear before it on April 9.Earlier also Mallya has failed to appear before it on two dates – March 18 and April 2.
As per officials, Mr Mallya has informed the Investigating Officer of the case in Mumbai that he will be unable to depose personally today because of the ongoing legal proceedings against him in the Supreme Court.
Mallya has done same thing earlier as well last week too – he had sought time till May but his request was turned down. Now ED is expected to decide on Monday whether
to take legal action against him, or grant him the time he has sought.
Additionally ED officials had earlier hinted that the April 9 summons could possibly be the last to Mr .Mallya as under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), such action can be undertaken for a maximum of three times only.
