The Untamed ‘Uvaa’

The untamed ‘Uva’

Though the title of the movie has intelligently replaced the ‘Y’ of Yuva with a ‘U’ to sound more cool and candid and bring a certain air of freshness, the storyline and the actors representing the ‘yuva’ failed to do so.

The first half left me wondering how I would sit through the entire movie. The acting was either overboard or too amateurish, the scenes inconsistent and the punches and comedy clearly didn’t provoke any laughter barring one or two scenes. The high school setting, pranks and teenage romance seemed very clichéd and arbitrary. However, a couple of scenes on school assembly did give out nostalgia.

If you can survive till the interval, the second half will surprisingly please you. The entire substance of the movie lies in its second half. The sweet walk on the tasteless bed of marshmallows is suddenly replaced by a thorny walk on jackfruit. The climax of the movie came as a savior and a few dialogues by Jimmy Shergill towards the end actually made a few people in the audience get up and applaud.

This movie brings into limelight a burning social issue of gang rape, and finally brings out a solution that makes one feel that justice has been done. Yet Jimmy Shergill’s role as the policeman in charge of the case overshadows all other the roles.

If at all you wish to go for the movie, look out for Jimmy Shergill and for the idea of justice thus presented. I would rate this movie a 2/5. The idea and storyline were good but its treatment could have been a lot better.
