It’s good news for senior legal service officer Suresh Chandra as he has appointed as Law Secretary. Chandra is at present Additional Secretary in the department.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved the appointment of Chandra as Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said.

In April the ministry of law and justice had issued an advertisement for the post. The total of 45 applicants including district judge, practicing advocates and Indian Legal Service (ILS) officers had applied for it.
The Department of Legal Affairs is responsible for tendering advice to ministries on legal matters, including interpretation constitution and the laws.
It is also responsible for matters related to treaties and agreements with foreign countries in matters of civil law, besides matters relating to Law Commission among others. G Narayana Raju, Legislative Secretary, was holding additional charge of the post of Secretary, Legal Affairs.
