Badlapur in Delhi: Meeting the Stars
This pleasant Tuesday afternoon, the cast of Badlapur addressed the media at New Delhi. Varun Dhawan, along with his co-stars, Yami Gautam, Nawazuddin Siddhiqui; director Sriram Raghavan & Producer Dinesh Vijan talked about their upcoming movie.
Talking about switching between his reel and real self, Varun said “I hear this quite a lot about switching on and switching off between real and reel lives. I have worked with dad (David Dhawan), and he always talks about switching on and switching off the characters. It had been comparatively easy for me to switch on and off my characters, in the past movies I’ve worked in, but this movie was different. Here, the button got stuck for 40 days at a stretch, without getting off at any point of time as we had a tight schedule and we wanted to accomplish everything in that given time.”
While talking about breaking his image of a chocolate boy, he says, “After my first movie only (Student of the year, I had told Sriram, that I wanted to do a serious movie. So, he gave me this and apart from being different, it was quite challenging but at the same time quite a learning experience. I had asked many questions and watched many movies to get into the mode of a psychopath, but that term itself would be arguable.”
“I was pleasantly surprised, when I was offered this role, by Sriram as I always wanted to work with him. It was a beautiful and quite a learning experience aswell to share the screen space with Nawaz and Huma. Everyone has done a fabulous job. Nawazuddin shared his experience of working with his co-stars. He told OWN, “It was a really good experience. Varun is very energetic and all my co-stars had a lot of passion and dedication, which was infectious, and drove everyone to work sincerely”
Director Sriram Raghavan, who has delivered brilliant movies like Johnny Gaddaar and Ek Hasina Thi, tells us why, the movie had been given the tagline ‘Don’t miss the beginning’
“ Thats because there is something very important that happens in the beginning of the movie, the first 10 minutes are extremely crucial, and if you miss that then the story you watch, will be different from the story with the beginning. I don’t want people to miss that experience, so we are trying to persuade the doors of the theatres to be shut after the movie starts.” he explained.
“I have the strongest chemistry with Nawaz in the Film. The way Sriram has captured two different people from different background, pitted against each other, is something to watch in this movie.” Varun answered, when asked about the chemistry between the actors.
Varun Further told the media that playing the character of Raghu in the movie has been his biggest challenge as an actor.
About the ending of the movie, Varun tells OWN, “It initially had three different versions, but Sriram, chose the riskiest and the most hard written amongst the three. So, this movie is a feast for thought, and something to think about, at home, after watching the movie. Everyone’s characters have layers, and are in grey shades. And at times, the most comic emotions evoked by Nawazuddin’s character to the viewers, can be the most regretful choice in the next moment.
Badlapur is all set to hit the theatres on February 20, 2015 and stars Varun Dhavan, Yami Gautam, and Nawazuddin Siddhiqui with Huma Qureshi ,Vinay Pathak and is directed by Sriram Raghavan.
