Spice up your Suit!
Don’t we love women wearing suits and looking uber sexy? Suits were not always available for women. As ‘feminism’ as a social movement began to demand for equal rights for women and grew more powerful in the 1960s, the women increased their presence in the workplace, the notion that females and skirts were synonymous was viewed as outdated. Soon pantsuits became a symbol of equality for women and ensured their mobility at workplace. French designer Yves Saint Laurent and other top designers responded to this desire for skirt-liberation by creating the pantsuit: an outfit, designed and tailored specifically for women, comprised of matching slacks and jacket. By the mid-1960s nearly all the important designers were creating and marketing pantsuits.
One of the most defining and earliest pantsuit moment in history was 1942’s Woman of the Year was not just a film, Kate Hepburn—as political columnist Tess Harding—strode across the screen in sleek power skirt suits with strong shoulders and slacks with blazers. The style not only became the actress’s trademark look, but ignited a trend that encouraged women to suit up for work and play.
We will now see how the pant suit has evolved, from then, from being a symbol of equality to now being a great androgynous statement making outfit. But do consider a few facts before buying a pant suit of your choice!
1.The Purpose
In today’s time, one is definitely spoiled for choice. It is thus important to know the occasion before you buy your suit. If its board meeting with a presentation, keep it subtle, but if its an after five event, you can completely play around!
2. The Place
Keep in mind the location, where you will be wearing the pant suit, and also the weather. If the apparel doesn’t fit the environment, you will never feel comfortable in it and end up inviting the fashion police.
3.Know Your Figure
You should know your body type before putting money in a new pair of pant suit. The key to looking perfect is to know yourself. Following are a few tricks! If you are short height, go monochromatic. If you have a small torso keep your blouse un-tucked and pair it with a longer jacket. Know the tricks well.
