Prez Rule in Andhra Pradesh

Following the political uncertainty after Chief Minister’s resignation, the Union Cabinet on February 28 has imposed President’s rule in Andhra Pradesh.

Article 356 of the Indian Constitution has provision for president’s rule if there is a failure of constitutional machinery in the state. Andhra Pradesh will be witnessing the same scenario again after 41 years. And, Andhra governor E S L Narasimhan will be holding the charge during period of prez rule.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned on February 19 as he was dissatisfied with the state’s bifurcation issue being split into Telangana and Seemandhra. And, since the Congress rule in Andhra was unable to choose a next-in-line, the union Cabinet recommended for President’s rule in Andhra which was later approved by the Union Government and welcomed by the Lok Satta party in Andhra.
