Retro fashion of 70’s is back in a big way, especially among women. They love to wear same old high waist pants, Shift dress, peplums and accessories like simple belt, delicate necklace and bracelets. “It seems television soap operas, old classic films which today’s younger generation missed are influencing them to try retro fashion of 70’s. May be because of curiosity,” says Nikhi Mahajan, designer.
70’s beach wear
Bohemian style is the favourite of today among youngsters. “This trend is very comfortable and innovative and also it is very individualistic,” says Karuna Khaitan. Her interpreting designer casual wear including tunics, kurtis and kurta sets are inspired by 70’s fashion, which everybody loved. Earlier T-shirts were printed with your beloved singers or band, today it popular film stars like Jackie Chan, Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan.
Though the face of Indian fashion is changing from time to time, 70’s fashion scene are the most influenced period for any designer be it Rohit Bal or Rina Dhaka. “70’s fashion was very much classic. It was very dignified and suits modern style,” says Rohit Bal. He feels just presenting old style as it wouldn’t work. “You have to do some kind of retrospection. Classic style has a significant influence in modern style statement,” Most of the designers in India and abroad focus on old classic shapes and pairing them with the palettes and patterns of today.
High quality dress
Retro style is not necessary on clothing; it has also on the kind of accessories you wear and even hair style and makeup of that glorious era. According to Ritu Beri, The bright prints of 70’s are back along with bright colours, floral motifs, polka dots etc. are back. Long hair and flared pants are doing well. Jute bags are also getting famous.”
Mix and match with retro look are getting high mark among younger generation. They are bold enough to wear in work places, meetings, evening parties etc. “They feel metro style will never go out of style and at the same time it impresses everyone around you,” feels Karuna Khaitan.
