NEET ordinance signed by President Pranab Mukherjee
On Tuesday, President Pranab Mukherjee gave his assent and signed the ordinance that allows state boards to skip the uniform medical entrance examination NEET for a year.
The ordinance was sent to the President on Saturday. Health Minister JP Nadda met the President on Monday to discuss and clarify few points about the ordinance and its urgency to get issued.
The Union Cabinet cleared the ordinance last Friday and the ordinance is aimed at “partially” turning the Supreme Court order which said that all government colleges, deemed universities and private medical colleges would be covered under NEET.

The exemption is only for the students of the State Boards.
Different states have earmarked seats in various private medical colleges for state quota so that students from one state can get seats in the other state.
The court has ordered a single medical test to benefit the students, who juggle between various examination schedules and different norms of private colleges.
The test was allowed in two phases – the first phase was conducted on May 1 and the second phase will be conducted on July 24.
Nearly 6.5 lakh students have already appeared for the first phase of the medical entrance held on May 1.
