Navy Chief quits, Officers Missing

Hours after INS Sindhuratna caught smoke, Navy Chief admiral Devender Kumar Joshi signed his resignation letter which was soon accepted by the government.

Russian-built submarine, INS Sindhuratna underwent technical failure due to which seven sailors suffered serious injuries and two navy officers are still missing. This has been the eleventh incident in six months after INS Sindhurakshak sank killing three officers and fifteen sailors on August 14 last year.

D K Joshi owned a moral responsibility for all the latest accidents and handed over his resignation to defence minister A K Antony. Vice admiral Robin K. Dhowan will be taking charge as an interim till a new navy chief is appointed.
