N. Srinivasan as the New ICC Chairman

The former President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), N. Srinivasan has taken over as the Chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC) in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday.The entire 52 member council of the ICC approved to the full changes to the ICC constitution. Moreover, the ICC system is all set to be restructured very soon. “It’s a great honour for me to have been elected as the first Chairman of the ICC, at a time when the ICC also has restructured itself to become more viable and offer better financial stability”, commented Srinivasan on the occasion.

The 69-year-old Srinivasan has had a mixed experience in the field of cricket management, in terms of achievements and controversies. He has been a part of various cricket associations for many years. He has served as the President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association since 2001 and also the Honorary Treasurer of the BCCI from 2005 to 2008. In 2011, he was named as the President of the board but only served till the month of March, 2014, citing the IPL match-fixing and betting controversies. As of now, Sunil Gavaskar is serving as the interim President of the BCCI.


This step by the ICC is an initiative to decrease corruption in cricket tournaments and also to support and revive Test cricket. The annual conference also saw Mustafa Kamal from Bangladesh becoming the 11th President of the ICC, with Allan Isaac who assumed office in 2012 ending his tenure.
