Of Steven Smith failed to recover from his injury, David Warner may lead the Australian squad in the limited over series against India.
Smith has been carrying niggles since the later part of the Ashes this year and it aggravated during his team’s crushing innings won over West Indies in Hobart. For precautions next week Smith will sit out of the opening two Big Bash League T20 2015-16.
The Australian think tank may rest him for the One Day International against India keeping the busy schedule ahead in mind, according to reports.
Darren Lehmann Australian coach said, “The ODI’s are important to us and then the T20 WC, so I can’t see him getting a break until the end of summer, unless we play really well or the niggles get worse.”
In smith fails to recover in time, Warner is likely to lead Australia in 5 ODI and 3 T20 international against India in January 2016.
