Lunar Eclipse 2014
Today people around the World would be able to witness the Lunar Eclipse that was seen last in year 1940. It will appear in almost all parts of India, except Rajasthan and Gujarat. In North east, it would be seen for the longest duration and would be most clear in Shillong.
Lunar Eclipse happens when earth comes in between Sun and Moon while rotating and shadow of Earth covers the Moon. This is second eclipse during the year.
Scientists are calling it ‘Blood Moon’ because it would be completely covered by the Earth’s Shadow, leading to the scattering of the sunlight in the atmosphere hence making the Moon’s appearance red.

For the sky watchers, it would be a wonderful and pleasing moment. And people coming from all walks of life are really excited to be a part of the moment. The clear eclipse would last for 23 minutes.
Talking about excitement with One World News, few people expressed how they feel about this opportunity, “Oh! This is fantastic because I think this whole generation would witness this eclipse for the first time and I am really looking forward to it”, says Suresh Khanna, 40 year old.
“I have just read in books and heard from Mom and Dad about eclipse. It must have happened a lot of times but I missed as I was young. So, this is my opportunity and I am really excited about it.”, says Archana Gupta, 13 year old.
It is a big event in the field of science but it has a different meaning according to the Hindu Religion. If scientists are curious for the event to happen, the same curiosity can be seen in Astrologers too.

According to Hindu Religion, it is believed that during the eclipse one should not eat food or sleep. During this period, one should enchant mantras as it is believed that it is a difficult time for the God.
“This situation has come after 74 years and it is very important. Planets are changing their homes and because of this the most affected Zodiac signs would be Virgo and Pisces. Pregnant ladies should not see this eclipse and everyone should try to enchant mantras keeping their hands away from the idols of God.” says Pandit Anand Ram.
As per the science or the astrology, the event is really significant. If you are a sky watcher then you can enjoy the moment by just looking up in the sky but please don’t forget to take necessary precautions and if you are an aesthesis you can perform all the rituals during the Eclipse.
