Low tech crook cons high tech Flipkart !
Using a loophole in Flipkart’s consumer friendly policy, a low tech crook named Veeraswamy allegedly crooked the online shopper of more than Rs.2 Million.
As per policy, if a customer is not satisfied after purchasing goods online, they can return them for a full refund. This policy is meant to instill consumer confidence, and is powerful customer retention management tool used by all online purchasing sites.
Mr. Veeraswamy, however used this well intentioned tool to dupe Flipkart of millions. He would buy the goods after paying money. Once received, he would ‘return’ them, and get money back in his account automatically.
However, instead of the goods being returned, all Flipkart got back was cartons filled with rubbish. To prevent detection, the enterprising Veeraswamy used over 200 different email accounts, and different bank accounts in a similar number of transactions.
It took Flipkart nearly two years to finally catch up with the alleged fraudster.
