Jurek’s Ultramarathon Olympics dream!
Scott Jurek is a legend, specially when it comes ot Ultramarathons, or running for long distances, like the 246 KM Spartathion.
This race is based on the epic journey of Pheidippides, a resident of Athens, who ran non stop to Sparta to warn of impending Persian attack in 490 BC.
As a matter of fact, a ‘marathon’ race is named after the battle of Marathon, which was fought subsequent to Pheidippides journey between the Greeks and Persians.
Coming back to our subject, Jurek’s feverent wish is that such Ultramarathons be made a part of Olympics.
However, he wonders that since in the present milieu, when instant gratification is the name of the game, hence putting spectators in stadiums, with events being live telecast, how an Ultramarathon will be managed.
