On Monday, John Mooney an Ireland all-rounder player announced his decision to take retirement from international cricket. He retired from top level of sport to pursue a business interest in the gymnasium and personal training sector.
Mooney made his international debut against England at Belfast in 2006. In 64 One day internationals he had scored 963 runs and in 27 Twenty20 internationals he had scored 231 runs for Ireland team.
He also picked up 58 wickets in both formats and established himself as a vital cog in the Ireland setup.
He is the 4th player from Ireland team to feature in 3 world cups along with William Poterfield and the O’Brien brothers.
While announcing his retirement, Mooney said “A business opportunity has arisen which I must pursue. It has become increasingly difficult to spend such long periods of time away from my wife and young family. I have always given 100℅ to the team and it wouldn’t be fair on them to keep going if I’m boot fully committed.”
Mooney will be remembered for the game he played against England in Bangalore during world cup 2011.
