JNU’s new registrar
Pramod Kumar, an associate professor at Delhi University’s Aurobindo College, has been appointed as the new Registrar of JNU.
In the midst of a controversy surrounding the February 9 event in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where anti-India slogans were allegedly raised, and the subsequent arrest of some students, the university has appointed a new registrar.
He will take over the position from Bupinder Zutshi. Kumar, who did his MPhil and PhD from the School of Environmental Sciences from 1988-95, will take charge from Monday. “I had appeared for the interview on March 16 and was informed on Friday by post that I had been selected. I have already completed my formalities and will be joining from Monday,” he said.
On being asked about joining the position at such a controversial time, he said: “I am a JNU alumni and I understand the university pretty well. I am sure I will be able to handle things.”
