Indian fishermen wandering into Sri Lankan territorial waters, and vice versa is not new. Due to poor navigation systems, fishermen sometimes make this mistake.
This time round too, 14 fishermen from Tamil Nadu had indvertantly ventured in to Sri Lankan territorial waters, and were apprehended by Sri Lankan Navy, and their boats impounded.
In this context, Jayalalithaa, the chief minster of Tamil Nadu has written a letter to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting his help in getting back the fishermen, and the more than 50 Indian fishing vessels lying impounded by Sri Lankan authorities.
