One of the great difficulties in remote rural areas is being able to access rapid diagnostic test for different diseases. It is usually within those first minutes that can help in saving a life and determining whether the patient needs to be isolated to prevent the disease from spreading.
A group of researchers at MIT have develop a simple diagnostic test. Similar to a pregnancy test, it is not limited to just testing for one type of disease. It is able to detect once the color-coded strips changes and is able to identify the various pathogens of hemorrhagic fever such as yellow fever and dengue and also Ebola.
It could change the way in how accurately medicinal science techniques can detect the genetic viruses that are endemic in areas that have limited access to lab technology.
