The Indian Ministry of Railways, in the first week of July, launched itself on the Social Media Platforms, Twitter and Facebook. The Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda made this declaration while addressing a gathering in Delhi.
“The Ministry of Railways is today connecting its presence on the social media as well as a call-in number to listen to important announcements starting with the budget. This unique 360 degree platform will help Indian Railways to listen, and gauge valuable feedback from its fellow travellers”, said Gowda. Giving an example of the current Prime Minister, he further added, “The use of social media has been the forte of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA Government which is aimed at transparency and quick information dissemination”.

This step by the Ministry of Railway is supposed to be very helpful for the passengers, who until now were facing numerous problems. They can now express their grievances with much ease and can directly approach the main authorities. The Minister of State for Railways, Manoj Sinha commented, “The Indian Railways is on a transformative journey and it looks forward to using social media as a platform to tell its stories and constantly hear from fellow travellers”.
To praise the initiative, Chairman of the Railway Board, Arunendra Kumar stated that Indian Railways is at the fore front of technology. And, the new initiative of social media will add to its technology development.
