Health Ministry banned 350 drugs
The health ministry of the Indian Government had taken a bold step and banned around 350 drugs. These are FDC (Fixed dose combination drugs) and the government believes that unapproved FDCs are sold in India. The step has been taken to improve safety of the population.
Cough syrups like Corex and Phensedyl that are based on codine have been banned.
These drugs have been banned because the government feels that these medicines can be misused. Also, they “were found to be “irrational” without any therapeutic efficacy and use” according to a report.
The banning has come on effect from Friday itself.
This move will have a huge impact on the pharmaceutical companies as they will incur huge losses.
