Has the countdown begun for the Bengal Tiger?
Only a 100 Bengal tigers were sighted in April in the Sunderbans, versus 400 in 2004. This is a mangrove forest along the coast of the Bay of Bengal on the border between Bangladesh and India.
Sunderbans has always been the traditional home of the Bengal Tiger. However, with rising population, the human population has been poaching on the Tiger’s turf. This conflict between man and the beast over territory has escalated over the decades, with more and more cases of attacks on humans, resulting in human retaliation.
Unless timely intervention takes place, it seems that the countdown has already begun, and may be too little, too late.
