In a surprise visit to a government hospital in Faridabad, Haryana state, India, Health Minister Anil Vij was in for a rude shock.
When he walked in, he was innundated with complaints from patients about laxity in treatment, and general rude and indifferent behaviour by Doctors and nurses.
The most shocking story was that of a youth with month old fracture, whose operation had been delayed by a month, simply because the doctor was not avaiable.
It turned out that the offending doctor a orthopaedic surgeon was AWOL since a few days.
The minster promptly suspended him.
This action, atleast temporarily should whip the medical staff in state run hospitals in Haryana into shape.
