Girl Rising in India aims to raise awareness and change attitudes relating to girls education through local language releases of the powerful feature film “Girl Rising”
During the conversation with the media, Priyanka Chopra shared her views and told how it is important to educate the girl child.
She said “This campaign is to create awareness about the value of the girl child. Rather than seeing her as a “Paraya Dhan”, she should be made independent. India is one of the countries that really requires it.”
Girl rising featured film would be shown in the form of stories of nine girls that would be represented by nine Bollywood actress including Frieda and Priyanka.
Adding on this Priyanka said “It just took one phone call for me and all my friends got ready to work for this movie and this shows that we don’t just do cat fights but of course we all can come together for a common cause as well.”
Holly Gordon, Co- founder of Girl rising, said that “Education not just aims to make them study in a classroom but it aims for overall developments and growth of a girl.”
When One World News asked Priyanka, if self-defense should be included in India’s education system. She said:

“Yeah, I think it should be included though it is sad for all of us. Due to high crime rates it has become compulsory to add this as a subject or training in education.”
Freida, on being asked the same question replied “See, it can be included in education but it would never work if the mindset of people in the country would not change.”
Holly said, “We are talking about self Defense training why can’t we talk about a nation where the girl is safe. For that it is important to create awareness and we are trying our best for the same. This can become more successful if al Indians help us.”
Winding up the conversation Frieda added that “too often it is the ideas of traditional and social stigma that are holding girls back, people just can’t imagine a different future after educating a girl.”
Girl Rising project will commence in India from 2015, and many are supporting it because it is now high time that we understand the value of girls in India.
You can also be the part of it, and give in your share of efforts to promote girl education.
