From Shaolin to India: Kung Fu!


To commemorate the 65th anniversary of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China, India Economic and Cultural Council organized the‘Chinese Kung Fu Show’ at Siri Fort Auditorium on 23rd September.


The show was extravagantly put up by the Shaolin Kung Fu troupe. The troupe has roots to the Shaolin Templeof the Tang Dynasty from 621 B.C.


The performance was mesmerizing and they displayed an array of scintillating skills such as the Zen Kung Fu, Eight –piece brocade, long style boxing, Kung Fu with two fingers and many more.

The Shaolin Kung Fu performance troupe, known for its historical background and art training, showcased their various astonishing skills on the evening enthralling the crowd with surprise tricks.


Kung Fu, although a martial arts form developed in China, is now famous and appreciated all over the world. It has large number of fans in India as well and it was apleasure to witness the art performed live. Although, Kung Fu is a fighting style, it advocates the virtue of peace and harmony.


The crowd was addressed by the chief guest ParvezDewan, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and H.E. Le Yucheng, Chinese Ambassador to India.

After every performance, the troupes were applauded and the crowd was cheering them on at every step. The energy in the auditorium was electrifying, with the crowd comprising of every age-group. The Imitative style boxing was a crowd favorite and was appreciated by all.


Following the culmination of the performance, the troupe also gave warm up sessions to the kids and the adults. They also gave some tips to remain fit as Kung Fu has obtained appreciation in the body building and fitness world.

The cultural event also promoted the message of peace and harmony between the nations. At the end of the event, to add more spirit to the occasion Mohammed Saqib, secretary General India China Economic and Cultural Council counselor, thanked the gathering for their presence. He said that he believes such Cultural handshakes between the people of two countries will not only be good for the cultural but economic ties between the countries as well.


And on that wonderful note of harmony and peace the evening came to a heart-warming end.
