A lot of people are suffering from different types of disorders it might can be eating also. You should know what proper eating means,as it is very important. Here are few types of eating disorders that you should know.
When we think of eating disorders, we only think of what’s called anorexia nervosa. But there are bundles of eating disorders that can affect our health badly.
Thinking about anorexia nervosa, the image that comes in our minds is that of a starved, visibly sick person (likely, a girl), with just a layer of skin covering the skeleton.
But it is only one kind of disorder.We stereotype eating disorders as a women’s problem. But in reality both men and women are equally vulnerable to eating disorders, it is not gender specified disorder, eating disorders are gender neutral.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health, there are eight eating disorders. Here are the four common ones.
1. Anorexia Nervosa
The first one or you can say most common disorder is Anorexia nervosa. The characteristic features of this disorder are low body weight, a distorted body image, and a strong fear of gaining weight. Person always has a constant worry of gaining weight.
Apart from this, Anorexia is categorized into two types.The first one is the “restrictive” type, where the sufferer starves themselves. The second is “binge-eating / purging” type, where the person restricts what they eat, but also has episodes of binge-eating which is sometimes followed by vomiting.
It’s good to have perfect body shape but sometimes your activities can badly damage your health. Anorexia nervosa seriously damages the body, including the vital organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys. It is a psychological disorder, at the root of which is anxiety, and low self-esteem. It is a serious illness, and can be fatal.
2 Bulimia Nervosa
Second and less important then one is Bulimia Nervosa. It is also a kind of disorder that affect our health. Everyone overeats once in a while.
But, it becomes a problem when there are recurrent episodes of binge-eating, where the person pretty much loses control over what and how much they eat. These episodes, where an abnormally large amount of food is consumed, are followed by feelings of guilt and shame.
This sense of guilt or shame, leads the person to induce vomiting, or exercising too much, or using laxatives to clear out the system.
3 Avoidant / Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
This is another kind of eating disorder that you guys must aware of.
There are picky eaters, and then there are those who suffer ARFID. These people hardly tries to control their gratification. These people avoid certain foods (of their choice), at the cost of their health, and social functioning.
They simply refuse to eat food items, and this leads to poor health because they do not receive the nutrition they need. And even they start consuming suplements in order to maintain their weight.
4. Night Eating Syndrome
Have you ever witnesses mid-night hunger? So, you have to keep in your mind what is good for your health and whatcis not. If the midnight snacks are large in portion, or followed by full, satisfactory meals, it might hint to a problem. That said, for it to be diagnosed as a syndrome, it must cause emotional distress to the person.
If you can find any of the symptoms mentioned above you might be patient of eating disorder. Medicines can effectively treat these disorders.
