Dharam Sankat Mein Press Conference
Today Paresh Rawal along with Annu Kapoor made their appearance at Le Meridien, Cannaught Place, New Delhi to promote their upcoming movie, ‘Dharam Sankat Mein’. Directed by Fuwad Khan, this movie is a drama-comedy whose story revolves around the central character of Dharam Pal (played by Paresh Rawal) who goes through identity crisis.
Addressing the media, Paresh Rawal spoke about how the movie is not just about two religions, “The movie is not just about Muslims and Hindus. My character is of Dharampal Trivedi, who gets to know that all his life he has lived as a Hindu but he is a Muslim by birth. The story revolves around how he tackles the situation. The topic is controversial but I believe when something is tackled in a lighter way, even if it is something very objectionable, it gets easier to gulp it up.
The conflicts between both the religions have been ongoing since ever so this movie is not talking anything new or not even trying to escalate things. People are talking about the movie without even watching it.”
Adding to it, Annu Kapoor said, “There is another movie which is releasing with ours, called Ek Paheli Leela. The difference between both the movies is that, this movie has content, a message for people to understand and execute, whereas the other one just has an eye candy and nothing else. Everyone has their own point of view and freedom of speech and expression so let them say whatever they have to, but our movie is very simple and supports the religion of humanity.”
Talking about the experience of working together, Annu Kapoor said, “We have worked together earlier too but that was a serious theme. It was a biopic on Sardar Vallabhai Patel wherein Paresh played Vallabhai Patel and I played Mahatma Gandhi. So, that was the first time when we appeared in significant role. Working in this movie with two eminent actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Paresh Rawal has been delightful and pleasurable experience.”
Paresh Rawal further spoke that a good actor is the one who have the talent of switching their character from one to another. He feels as an artist and professional, it is a completely wrong approach to get affected by a character. Further he added that he feels that he is an artist first and then a member of parliament however he realises his duty and takes responsibilities no matter what. “Being a politician my duties have surely changed and grown but I am being responsible and taking care of it. As far as its effect on movies is concerned, earlier I used to do 14-15 movies a year now I am very selective and doing only 3-4 movies.”
Addressing the media he further spoke about his perspective on choosing scripts, “I entered the industry from theatre background with a good will of being a good actor. I accepted all that I was being offered. I never planned movies or roles then I was lucky to get Swarg, Sardar etc. We are working in commercial cinema wherein a trend follows, as in, when we do a genre specific movie, for say comedy, and if that works then for a lot of coming years the same genre of movie will follow.I love serious cinema wherein you are giving something for the audience to take back however I do movies for two reasons- for my creative appetite and for my pocket. Wherein movies like Sardar fill in my creative appetite, commercial movies like Hera Pheri and others fill my pocket.”
Based on British comedy movie ‘The Infidel’, Dharam Sankat Mein is the Indian adaptation of the same movie which is produced by Sajjad Chunawala and Shariq Patel under the banners Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Trigno Media and is all set for a release on 10 April 2015.
