Cyber Crime
A news headline in March 2013 read, “Rupees 50 Lakhs stolen from bank account of US based director of ICICI bank.” India’s number one private sector bank is not able to protect the bank account of one its own director from cyber threats.
This not only shows the level of risks within one of the best equipped bank of the world but also point out the helplessness of these institutions. Information technology has undoubtedly increased speed, precision, volume of growth, and businesses today, but hazards of cyber threats are extremely high. One of the most advanced country, USA, has no department left that had not been touched by cyber crime today.
Defined simply, cyber crime is use of computer to further illegal ends, such as stealing identity, violating privacy etc. The use of internet has become wider and deeper as it has become centre to commerce, entertainment and government. Most of the early and widespread victims and villains were found in US. But by 21st century only hamlets remained that had not been touched by cyber crime of one sort or another.
Now there are different names for different cyber crimes like hacking, phishing, password sniffing, digital bulling, password cracking etc.
