The 18 degrees festival, which is taking place in Shillong from 9th to 11th October will begin from a fashion show and conclude with the same. Dassa is the fashion director of the event. Being associated with the fashion fraternity since 12 years, he is showcasing Ritu Beri’s designs this year.
One World News the official online news channel for the event, brings to you an exclusive chat with the Fashion Director Dassa, just before the festival.
Creative Encounters Fashion Show 2014
With how many designers you have worked till date?
I have worked with many designers as far as I remember but to keep a count, is something that I don’t publicize. I think of my work journey as a learning experience every single day. But choreographing and directing a show for a fashion icon like Ritu Beri has to top it all. She is the brand ambassador of Indian fashion for the world. I don’t think so anyone can beat this.
When it comes to the fashion world, who is your role model?
I don’t see anyone as my role model as my work is very individualistic but yes, I do follow my contemporaries’ work quite religiously.
What are your expectations from this show?
My expectation from any show is always sky high but this time, we are anticipating more than our usual expectations. Creative Encounters is ‘A fashion show with a difference’ and I think we did it differently last season too. However, this season, we are more than grateful to the Government of Meghalaya, Department of Arts & Culture for allowing us to be more creative as well as contribute more in making ‘A show with a difference’.

On what theme is your work based upon?
My work is based on the theme that suits the client’s requirement. But personally, I like to invent and innovate and stay true to fashion at the same time.
Any award or title that you have received till date?
There is so much to achieve and very little time span to do so. Maybe, that is the reason why I haven’t thought about awards and titles so much. But it is always nice to be appreciated for your hard work.
Share with us any memorable event that you experienced on any of your shows?
Every single show brings me a whole lot of memorable experiences as so many precious moments occur on the way towards the final showcase. So, it is hard to pick one.
In what other activities, you like to indulge yourself in, other than work?
I like to travel a lot. So, I do that whenever I get the time.
What are your future plans?
I do not know what the future holds for me as it is never certain but I try and stay positive and always hope for a better future, be it work, myself or for my near and dear ones.
What should people from other parts of the country look forward to vis-a-vis the annual Meghalaya Cultural Festival?
18 Degrees Festival is the festival that believes in bringing cultures together and celebrating its vibrancy. People from all over can expect to view spectacular art from renowned artists, electrifying performances from noted performers and the fashion event. They can take back the experiences and share it with the rest of the world. People can come and visit and see what Meghalaya has to offer. The culture is so rich and we want to enrich it more.
