Convertible clothing trend is slowly picking up. It is not a new idea as such. In the mid of 2012 St Louis based Emily Koplar Brady designed an outfit – a black and white tweed shirt that had black leather details at the sleeve and peplum waist. Fashion houses grabbed the idea because the design was unique that sleeve was removable and so is peplum. Now a day some fashion houses are designing clothes that can be used in a dozen different ways, according to the need of the wearer. “The idea of convertible clothing is getting good clients, as the life has turned very fast and they have no time to change dresses one in the office, then for the party or a marriage ceremony. “They prefer one dress which can be converted to suit various occasions.” Says Ritu Beri, fashion designer.

People usually pick up new apparel every season paying huge amount. “Fashion comes and goes, today it is halter style, tomorrow may be hooded style. Today’s fashion conscious younger lot does not want to throw away old stock of apparel simply because the style has changed. Here convertible apparel comes, as they think convertible apparel work wonders without spending extra money on new clothes.” Anju Modi believes.

Another designer Kristin Glenn from Colorado is specialsing in multi-functional clothing. She said, “I really like to design multi-functional apparel which should be simple and affordable.” Her outfits like skirts, scarves, tops, stylish shirts can be worn in 20 different ways.


Ferozzi convertible pants are making waves in the fashion circle. This is a stretchy convertible pants. These two in one bottoms feature feather zip-off lower legs, which can be used for hiking and backpacking at the same time. Interestingly for a convertible pants or shirts, the fabric usually is light and flexible, so a wearer feels he or she is wearing a payjama or loose pant.

A lot of experiment is taking place in swim wear too. The convertible multi style wrap swim wear featuring halter neck push up cups irregular hem decoration twist wrap on the front retro special by “Qossi” is craze among modern women of today.


Majority buyers of convertible clothes are on-line shoppers through out the world. The reason, some of them are taking buyers into confidence by video-conferencing and taking their tips into consideration. Four-in-one jacket, two-way trousers and convertible coats are in demand and the main buyers are younger lots in the age of 18 and 25. Functionality, practicality and economic benefits are some of the reason for their growing popularity.
