According to India’s central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), all systems are in place to implement GST (Goods and Service Tax), as soon as the requisite legislation is passed.
According to CBEC Member V.S. Krishnan, “ Missing the April 01, 2016 deadline does not mean going to 1st. April 2017. GST can be implemented anytime during the year once the bill is passed.”
GST is meant to be a landmark tax restructuring, which will encompass sales tax, octroi, excise, service tax, etc., ensuring a single, uniform, indirect taxation system in India.
